Lee Tzu-Tung @l.tzutung is a conceptual artist and curator from Taiwan. Growing up amid Taiwan’s diverse and intersecting struggles over generational identity, Lee asks: “After generational trauma, how can marginalized communities ‘queer’ contemporary hegemony?” Drawing on open source and openness, decentralized technologies, and participatory projects, Lee invites audiences to become co-creators who reflect and find empowerment together within the art project.

Lee holds a Master of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), and received a full New Artist Society scholarship and a Transmediale Fellowship. Lee’s work has been shown internationally at institutions including the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts and Taipei Fine Arts Museum (Taiwan), the MIT Museum (USA), the University of Lisbon (Portugal), ArtScape (Canada), Transmediale (Germany), Philosopher’s Stone Gallery (South Korea), Hyundai Studio (China), and Asymmetry Foundation (UK). Lee has also convened many political and art events, and founded the art-and-technology collectives Tinyverse (微米宇宙) and 藝術松 (Hackathon for Artists).

❑ About the Talk + Workshop

Contemporary war is no longer only about tanks, missiles, and military operations. Drone surveillance, algorithmically pushed disinformation, and fragile digital infrastructure all bring war into our lives in forms that are more dispersed, more everyday, and harder to recognize.

This talk approaches “posthuman war” from a feminist perspective: as people, machines, data, algorithms, and infrastructure are drawn into war together, the lines between war and peace, and between military and civilian, grow ever more blurred. How do we understand where humans stand within this? And how can we reimagine resistance?

The second half of the talk moves into an “Anti-Surveillance Fashion Workshop.” Turning the question around, we will explore how drones and algorithms “see” the human body. Starting from different bodies and everyday clothing, and imagining ways of wearing, covering, and camouflaging, we will consider the possibilities of not being seen, refusing recognition, and protecting one another.
